Front and Center is the second book in A.M. Madden’s Back-Up series and it continues the story of Jack Lair, of Devil’s Lair, and Leila Morino.  I consumed this book in just over 24 hours – that’s how good it is.  The storyline continues with the love between Jack and Leila, the Devil’s Lair band tour, and the forces that come against them and try to tear them apart.

The characters are believable.  They come alive in your mind and make you laugh out loud, cry, and become enraged on their behalf.  If you weren’t already a Jack Lair groupie after reading Back-Up, the first book in the series, you will definitely be after this book.  Jack is so endearing, even when he screws up you know that there is a good man inside.

Leila is smart, strong, determined and loyal.  I love to read a strong female character that is also not afraid to love with her whole heart.  She’s not afraid to put herself out on the line to make sure that her relationships don’t crumble.  But she doesn’t fall apart when the chips are down – she stands her ground and holds her head high.

The supporting characters add an extra dimension to the book.  While it focuses on Jack and Leila, the band members are an integral part of the story.  You can imagine the antics that go on between four men stuck on a tour bus together.  My favorite band character (other than Jack!) is Trey.  For whatever reason, I picture Slash from Guns N’ Roses when I read him.

As we move towards the bus, one of the photographers calls out, “How long have you been together?”
Trey deadpans, “Hunter and Scott would like their privacy during this stressful time.”  With that, he boards the bus, leaving the cameras flashing and Hunter and Scott open mouthed, red faced and ready to kill him.

Take the roller coaster ride with the Devils – you won’t regret it!  I can’t wait for the next book!
